3 Congress secretaries submit LS rout report to Priyanka

June 21, 2019
New Delhi: Three Congress secretaries on Friday submitted their report over the Lok Sabha debacle to party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi blaming the weak organisation, party source said.

A senior party source told IANS that three secretaries — Zubair Khan, Sachin Naik and Bajirao Khera — met Priyanka Gandhi at the residence of Congress President Rahul Gandhi and submitted their report about the election rout.

The party leader said the three secretaries were on the tour of the state for the last 10 days and had met several district chiefs and party candidates in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The party source said the report points at a weak organisation at the district as well as block levels in the state. He said the report also highlighted how the upper caste as well as Dalit votes distanced from the party in the last few years.

The meeting of the three secretaries with Priyanka Gandhi lasted over three hours.

Earlier this month, Priyanka Gandhi during a day’s visit to Rae Bareli along with her mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, came down heavily on workers for not working hard to ensure party candidates’ victory.

Priyanka Gandhi said she would review the party as well as the leaders’ performance.

She made her political debut in January this year and was also made the in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh. She was made in-charge of 41 out of 80 seats in the state. She had campaigned extensively in 26 constituencies during the general election.

However, the Congress lost even the Gandhi family stronghold of Amethi, where Rahul Gandhi was defeated by BJP’s Smriti Irani by 55,000 votes.

Soon after the three secretaries left Rahul Gandhi’s residence, senior Congress leader and Chhattisgarh Minister T.S. Singh Deo arrived to meet the party chief.
