New Delhi: Making a significant announcement for women empowerment in his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that girls will be able get admission in all Sainik Schools in the country now onwards.
“I have been getting requests from hundreds of thousands of daughters of the country for getting admissions in Sainik Schools,” the Prime Minister said in his address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
“Two-and-a-half years ago, we made a beginning from a Sainik School in Mizoram by giving admission to girls there. On the 75th Independence Day, I am making this announcement that all Sainik Schools in the country will be open to girls henceforth,” he said.
He said that with the women in the country getting keen to ensure their participation in all fields, the country would have to ensure their safety and security “from street and work space.”
He added that not only the police, but the citizens would have to play a role in this regard.
