New Delhi: Underlining the role of media in a democratic country, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today described journalists as strong pillars of the society as they bring out facts and try to find out the truth behind what was happening around.
In an informal interaction with senior women journalists at his official residence here, the Vice President said that journalists sometimes have to work under trying circumstances and face great hazards in their pursuit of truth.
And they grow greater in their profession as they continue their pursuit of truth, said Dhankhar, who assumed office as 14th Vice President of India on August 11, 2022. Earlier, he served as governor of West Bengal ruled by Mamata Banerji’s Trinamool Congress.
He said that with any post or stature come more responsibilities and one’s actions and decisions are subjected to greater scrutiny but it is these that help one in growing.
The interaction over tea was attended by a large number of very senior journalists, including several veterans among them .
Dhankhar extended new year greetings to the women journalists and hoped such interactions would continue in future.
