New Delhi: The VHP has surprised all by announcing that it was defering agitation for construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya by four months until the Lok Sabha polls were completed.
According to a report in Wednesday’s edition of the Indian Express, VHP International Working president Alok Kumar told the newspaper that the recent Dharma Sanasad held at Prayagraj took the decision not to go ahead with its agitational programmes on the Ram janmbhumi issue in the next four months.
The announcement comes as a surprise in view of the fact that the BJP-led Government at the Centre recently moved the Supreme Court seeking permission to return the 67 acres of land adjacent to the disputed site in Ayodhya to its original owners Ram janmbhoomi Nyas.
The Indian Express quoted Mr Kumar as saying that they were defering their agitation as they did not want the temple construction to be an issue in petty electoral politics.
The VHP had held dharma sabhas across the country to demand an ordinance by the Centre to facilitate temple construction.
