Farmers’ body AIFA opposes new agricultural ordinances

Raipur: The All Indian Farmers Association(AIFA) has strongly opposed the three ordinances passed by the Central Government on Agricultural Reforms, saying that these laws will not serve the interest of farmers.

”These measures will lead to dominance of corporates on agriculture and food market,” AIFA convenor Dr Rajaram Tripahi said in a statement here.

Ordinances are brought in extraordinary circumstances, but in these cases there was no need to bring them in without consulting farmers, he said.

It was rather ridculous that the Government consulted trade bodies on the agricultural reforms he said.

The reforms enforced would result in contract farming, and as it always happens, the contract always goes in favour of the stronger party, the AIFA convenor said.

He urged the Government not to go ahead with these ”so-called reforms and leave the farmers to fend for themselves instead of fooling them with these schemes which would remain only on paper.”
