New Delhi: In a bid to honour Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, India has established ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ at the Delhi University.
Speaking at the signing-in ceremony, foreign secretary Harsh Bardhan Shrigla said, “Sheikh Mujibur Rahman laid the foundations for his country’s growth and development. Bangladesh is today one of the major engines of growth in the region with impressive economic expansion rates and rapidly improving socio-economic indicators.”
“There are many areas in which Indians have learnt from Bangladesh and will continue to do so.”
“2021 is a very special year for India-Bangladesh relations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mentioned during his visit to Bangladesh in March, this year marks a “Triveni”— the commemoration of Mujib Borsho, the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the Golden Jubilee of the Liberation war of Bangladesh,” Shringla added.
Bangladesh High Commissioner To India Muhammad Imran signed an MoU for setting up Bangabandhu Chair. Dr. Vinay Sahasrabudhhe, President Indian Council for Culture Relations (ICCR) Dinesh Pattanayak, DG ICCR and acting Vice Chancellor, Delhi University, P C Joshi, were present on the occasion.
A similiar Chair for India will be established at Dhaka University soon. High Commissioner of Bangladesh said that the collaboration between ICCR and Delhi University will break new grounds, which will help in enhancing knowledge and understanding, further growth of ties amongst institutions and more common work.
