Indian Muslims’ body IMPAR launches ‘Global Movement Against Extremism’

Nov 18, 2020

New Delhi: Indian Muslims for Progress and Reforms (IMPAR) as the apex body of more than 10,000
prominent Muslims of India and of Indian origin worldwide has launched a “Global Movement against Extremism” to collect one million signatures and submit to the UN.

The increase in hate, intolerance and extremism have resulted into brutalities that threatens the peaceful living and coexistence of the human societies, IMPAR said while launching its global mobement on November 17.

It called upon all the like-minded people to join and support this movement through all social media platforms and sign the petition for spreading the message of harmony, justice and humanity.

While underlining that peace is an essential entity for the advancement of the human civilisation, IMPAR noted that the planet has witnessed extremism and violence among all the tribes, communities and the nations from time to time in the name of race and religion.

It stressed that the increasing globalisation and growth in mixed living and multiculturalism requires a greater compassion and understanding for peace to prevail on the planet. The growth of right wing politics, role of geopolitics and misuse of social media has given rise to violence and terrorism, making peaceful coexistence a challenge.

Realising the challenge, the UN Secretary-General in Feb 2016 at the Geneva Conference called for a comprehensive global approach encompassing not only essential securitybased counter-terrorism measures but also systematic preventive steps to address the underlying conditions that drive individuals to radicalize and join violent extremist groups.

”India is socially and culturally the most diverse country in the world having followers of not only all the religions but also the origin of four major religions. Indian Muslims numbering 200 million are the 2nd largest community in the world. The exposure to vast social diversity and multiculturalism and and having come under the influence of Sufism, the essence of Islam, deep in the hearts, Indian Muslims are the most suited to show way to the world for peaceful coexistence in multicultural societies,” IMPAR President MJ Khan said while announcing the launch of the Global Movement Against Extremism.

Executive director of IMPAR Khalid Ansari and participants at a virtual function for the global launch said that IMPAR was appealing to all Indian citizens and people around the world to support this movement.

Prominent among those who participated in the launch function include Justice Iqbal Ansari, Chairman Punjab Human Rights Commission and former chief justice of Patna High Court; President, Editors Guild of India Seema Mustafa, NDMA Member Lt Gen Ata; Ms Farah Usmani from UN HQ, ED World Trade Centre, NOIDA, Khairul Nisa; Syed Salma Chishti of Dargah Ajmer Sharif; Chairman Africa Green Resource Zuneid Yousuf, VC Integral University Prof SW Akhtar; Dr Khurshid Alam, Chairman of Academy for Advanced Studies and Training International, UK; President Indian Crescent Society of Australia Abbas Raza Alvi; Dr Arshi Zavery, Senior Advisor, Royal Family Office, Abu Dhabi and CEO, Trust With Trade Group, UAE, and President Kolkata Gives Foundation Mudar Patheria.

Promoted by 1000 plus prominent Muslims from different walks of life, IMPAR is a national think tank, which aims to work in making a meaningful difference to the community’s engagement with the society and the nation. The Forum is comprised of the eminent persons from politics, bureaucracy,
corporate, business, academia, science, economy, journalism, policy making, law, art and culture and philanthropy etc. As the national think tank and apex coordination body IMPAR is mobilizing the progressive voices of educated Muslims to collectively express their constructive views to the society and the nation. IMPAR is also working on promoting education and awareness, shared cultural values, national ethos, rationale thinking and scientific temperament and reforms in the community.

bring about a positive change in the community and to meaningfully contribute to the society,” says IMPAR.
