Hindenburg report: Modi hits back at Rahul over ‘relationship with Adani’ remark

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address was full of jibes thrown at the Opposition, mainly at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

He said the Opposition had wasted the past nine years in levelling baseless allegations instead of indulging in constructive criticism.

Without naming him he said, some people expose themselves when they speak. He made satirical remark on him: “Yeh keh keh kar hum dil ko behla rahe hain, wo ab chal chuke hain, wo ab aa rahe hain.”

Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s suggestion of a study on the meteoric rise in the business fortunes of Adani, Modi said an important study has been done at the Ivy League research university on the subject – ‘Rise and fall of India’s Congress Party’, according to Hindustan Times report.

Modi said, “Some people here have a craze for Harvard studies. During Covid, it was said that there will be a case study on the devastation in India. Over the years an important study has been done at Harvard and the subject of the study is the ‘Rise and fall of India’s Congress Party’.”

While attacking Modi yesterday in Parliament, Rahul had said: “There should be a case study on Adani by business schools such as Harvard, on how the relationship between business and politics works, India is a case study.

“Yesterday, I saw that after speeches by some people, the entire ecosystem got active. Some people were very happy, saying “yeh hui na baat (this is how it should be). The hate they have inside came out in the open in their speeches,” said Modi.

In the light of Hindenburg report, Rahul alleged the sharp rise in the fortunes of the Adani Group was owing to his close relationship with PM Modi. The Adani group has suffered a stock price meltdown since American firm Hindenberg accused it of fraud last month.

Expunging Rahul’s remarks: ‘Can’t erase democracy’s voice’

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi slammed the expunging of his remarks in Lok Sabha yesterday, saying Modi cannot erase the voice of democracy. “Mr. Prime Minister, you cannot erase the voice of democracy. The people are directly questioning you. You must reply,” he tweeted.

Earlier, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh too slammed expunging of parts of Gandhi’s speech in Lok Sabha, wherein he had alleged Modi’s link to tycoon Gautam Adani.
