Patna: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath overruled the BJP High command and did not induct Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trusted bureaucrat turned politician, Arvind Kumar Sharma in his cabinet.
Sharma, a former joint secretary in PMO, who had taken VRS to join BJP in January, was today appointed vice president of Uttar Pradesh unit of BJP, Swatantra Dev Singh, BJP president in UP informed today.
A native of Mau, the upper caste Bhumihar officer was made a member of UP Vidhan Parishad and was expecting to be included in Yogi cabinet as his deputy with Home portfolio.
For several weeks, when CM Yogi was busy in managing state’s Covid crisis, he was under pressure to induct the 1988 batch IAS in his cabinet.
But the Chief Minister refused and during his last week visit to New Delhi, he had reportedly told Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah that he would not induct Sharma in his cabinet.
Yogi is understood to have convinced the High command that since state already had two deputy chief ministers, Sharma’s inclusion was not possible. Sharma was in Narendra Modi office at Ahmedabad since 2002 and when Modi moved to New Delhi, he too joined PMO.
Yogi had complained, Sharma frequently gave instructions to UP officers when he was in the PMO.
