Covid case in India cross 58000: A fourth wave?

New Delhi: Covid cases in India are rising, with 12,213 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of actice cases to over 58000.

A Covid update from the Union Ministry of Health says that daily positivity rate at present stands at 2.35%. The number of active cases has gone up to 58,215.

The Ministry also said there were 7,624 recoveries in the last 24 hours, which increased total recoveries to
4,26,74,712.Recovery Rate currently at 98.65%.

Though some researchers had predicted a fourth wave in June, but experts are still hesitatnt to term the current rise in Covid cases as on set of another wave. Because, the rise is not uniform in the whole country but was limited to a few states and few districts.

The current rise Covid-19 infections is widely believed to be caused by the BA4 and BA5 variants of Omicron in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Telangana.

Most of the Covid-19 cases are happening in seven states. Kerala is reporting the highest number of cases and deaths, followed by Maharashtra, and Delhi. Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are the other states where the number of cases are high.
