In a significant move that is likely to affect millions of people, WhatsApp will now let users delete messages up to two days after they were sent. Precisely, the users will no longer have just one hour to delete a message after sending it.
The change in the option to delete sent messages was announced by WhatsApp itself on its Twitter profile. According to the company, users will now have two days to decide to unsend a message in a private or group chat.
According to The Verge, to start using the new feature right now, open up the WhatsApp group or individual chat where you sent the message(s). Make sure to tap and hold the content you want to get rid of, click “Delete,” and then select either “Delete for everyone” or “Delete for me.”
However, there is a (slight) catch to this, so think twice before you start deleting everything. To make this work, all recipients must have the most recent version of WhatsApp, and you won’t actually get a notification if the message didn’t delete, according to ANI.
Interestingly, while WhatsApp is increasing the time users have to delete a message, Apple is going in the opposite direction with iMessage, according to a report published in tech portal. In the first beta versions of iOS 16, users had 15 minutes to unsend a message. Now with the latest betas, this limit has been reduced to only two minutes, it added.
It further pointed out that the feature has been quite controversial as some users believe that options to edit and unsend messages can be used for malicious purposes, leading Apple to add a change history for edited messages in iMessage. – INDIA NEWS STREAM
