New Delhi: An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter Scale hit Punjab on Friday night, the tremors of which were felt in the national capital and its adjoining areas.
According to the National Centre for Seismology of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the earthquake had its epicentre in Amritsar district and Tajikistan and struck at 10:34 pm at a depth of 10 km fom the surface.
So far there are no reports of any casualties or damage to properties.
The shock and after shocks were felt in New Delhi for several seconds, prompting people to rush out of their homes.
Tremors were also felt in several other parts of north India and Pakistan.
