Trinamool MP Saugata Roy raises car attack matter at Kolkata airport with LS Speaker

Kolkata: A day after his car was attacked by protesters outside the Kolkata airport, Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy on Wednesday wrote a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding this incident.

In his letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Roy has accused two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs, Arijit Bakshi and Sourav Sikdar, and held them responsible for orchestrating the protest against him.

The Trinamool Congress MP mentioned the details of the ‘harassment’ incident in his letter.

Roy told media persons, “I have informed the Lok Sabha Speaker about everything that happened yesterday (Tuesday). I am a public representative. Two public representatives of the BJP were also involved in yesterday’s incident. I have mentioned the names of two BJP MLAs, Arijit Bakshi and Sourav Sikdar, in the letter to the Speaker.”

On Tuesday, the Trinamool MP faced protests from a section of people and BJP workers outside the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport near Kolkata.

The protesters surrounded Roy’s car outside the city airport, waving black flags and displaying shoes.

Slogans such as ‘Go back’ and ‘Thief, thief’ were also raised.

Later, the airport authorities and police rescued Saugata Roy.

The Trinamool Congress MP had gone to the airport to attend a meeting of airport authorities.

As soon as Roy arrived, the mob and BJP workers as well as supporters surrounded his car. They kept asking the Trinamool MP to go home.

The Trinamool MP tried to talk to the protesters by lowering the window of his car. However, it was of no use as the protesters were unwilling to listen to anything. After a while, the airport authorities and police rescued Roy.

After the BJP government came to power in West Bengal, Trinamool MP Saugata Roy, aligned to Mamata Banerjee-led party faction, had faced one round of protest.

At the end of May this year, an agitated mob protested around him in Nimta area of North 24 Parganas district.

Eggs were thrown at him while slogans of thieves were also raised.

The Trinamool MP alleged that BJP workers and supporters were behind the incident.
