SKU demands good quality safety gear for Delhi safai workers

New Delhi:Sanitataion workers body Safai Kamgar Union(SKU) has demanded immediate provision of safety gear including quality hand gloves, proper face mask and face shield to the workers of the Ambedkar University, Delhi(AUD).

SKU has also demanded that workers should be called on rotation basis and for only necessary work. Following the finding of Corona patients in the campus, such safety is necessary for the workers and their families.

In a statement here, SKU leader Harish Gautam said that the workers were facing a huge risk to their health due to continuous negligence by the AUD administration towards the safety of workers from Coronavirus.

As known, the universities and colleges remain closed in Unlock-1, but the administration has been forcing the workers of all three campuses (Kashmere Gate, Karampura, Lodhi Road) to report for work daily, while at the same time all other clerical and administrative staff are being called in rotation. The administrative and other work in university is at halt, and neither teachers nor students are coming. The library also remains closed. In such circumstances, pressurizing workers to report for work daily, is not only unnecessary but irresponsible and negligent, and is posing huge risk to the lives and safety of sanitation workers and their family.
