Ban on 5 products of Baba Ramdev’s firm revoked

The ban was imposed on five products – Bpgrit, Madhugrit, Thyrogrit, Lipidom tablets and Eyegrit Gold tablets – has been revoked by the Uttarakhand Ayurveda and Unani Licensing Authority on Sunday.

On 11 November, the state’s Ayurveda authorities directed Ramdev’s firm to halt the production of five medicines used to cure diabetes, blood pressure, goitre, glaucoma, and high cholesterol. Divya Pharmacy manufactures Yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali products.

Amending the earlier order, the authority has now allowed the firm to continue the production of these medicines, reported the Mint. “We should have given the company time to explain its stand before issuing the order,” state health authority GCN Jangpangi said.

As per the authorities, the previous order was issued hastily, and it was an error. They have given Divya Pharmacy permission to continue producing the five medicines (products) by issuing a new order.

Ramdev’s close aide Acharya Balkrishna expressed his gratitude to the state government for rectifying the error, according to Indian Express.

The Patanjali company has been found in repeated violation of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act as per the authorities. The ban was uplifted within a few days.

Reason for ban

That action against Divya Pharmacy was taken in response to a complaint filed by Kerala-based ophthalmologist Dr K.V. Babu. “They had an advertisement in which they say their eye drops were useful in glaucoma, cataract and many other eye issues. If any of these issues remained untreated, they can lead to blindness. Such advertisements are a threat to human life,” quotes Dr Babu.
