Priyanka Gandhi attacks Centre over failure to check ‘corruption’ in NEET UG exam

New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi, Congress General Secretary and Wayanad MP, on Monday raised the issue of alleged “corruption” in the NEET UG exam for admission to medical colleges, accusing the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government of failing to check malpractices that endanger the youth’s future.

“The rampant corruption in exams over the past several years under the BJP rule is robbing the country’s youth of their future. This time too, the future of nearly 23 lakh students has been tampered with,” said Priyanka Gandhi in a post on X.

“Children toil with all their might for exams like NEET. Parents stake their stake in everything they have so that their children’s future can be secured. But every exam falls prey to corruption. What’s the use of the so-called stringent law brought in Parliament against paper leaks if the same corruption continues on the ground?” she said.

“The Prime Minister is accountable to the country’s youth. How long will this cycle of ruining the youth’s future go on?” said the Congress MP.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s criticism of alleged corruption in the medical entrance exam came a day after the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Sunday said it is cooperating with investigating agencies after reports emerged of alleged irregularities linked to the Rajasthan Special Operations Group probe into the conduct of NEET (UG) 2026.

In an official statement, the NTA said the medical entrance examination held on May 3 was conducted “as scheduled and under a full security protocol”, with several layers of monitoring and verification in place.

The Agency said on May 7, four days after the examination, that it received inputs regarding alleged malpractice during the examination.

These inputs were escalated by NTA to central agencies on the morning of May 8 for independent verification and necessary action. The action subsequently undertaken by the law enforcement agencies, including the detentions reported in the media over recent days, is the result of their professional and timely work.

“The NTA places on record its appreciation for the agencies leading this effort and confirms that it is working closely with them in a fully supporting role, providing all examination-related data and technical assistance required,” it said in a statement.

The Rajasthan investigators are investigating allegations that a “guess paper” circulated before the exam contained questions that closely matched those on the actual paper.

In another case, the Delhi Police rescued 18 NEET aspirants from various hotels in Delhi NCR who had been kept in confinement by a gang that had collected Rs 20-30 lakh each from their parents by promising guaranteed MBBS admissions under management and other quotas.

The 18 aspirants were rescued on the eve of NEET on May 3 and helped to appear in the exam after counselling.
