Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday made an “ugly” comment on women in Maharashtra when he said women look good in sarees, in salwar suits and eve if they don’t wear anything.
Speaking at a yoga camp in Thane, he said, “Women look good in sarees, they look good in salwar suits, in my eyes, they look good even if they don’t wear anything.” Interestingly, wife of Maharashtra Deputy CM and BJP Devendra Fadnavis was also sitting by his side when made the controversial comment. Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde’s son MP Shrikant Shinde was also present at the event. The purported video of the loquacious Baba triggered massive outrage on social media platforms.
Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal shared the video, condemning the comment. Ramdev should apologise for his comment insulting women, Swati Maliwal tweeted. She wrote: “Ramdev’s remarks on women in front of the wife of the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra are indecent and condemnable. All women have been hurt by this statement, Baba Ramdevji should apologise to the country for this statement!”
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut also commented on the issue and asked why Amnruta Fadnavis had not protested when the comment was made. “The government remains silent when the Governor makes an insulting remark on Shivaji, when Karnataka chief minister threatens to take Maharashtra villages to Karnataka and now when BJP campaigner Ramdev insults women. Has the government kept its tongue in mortgage to Delhi?” Sanjay Raut said speaking to media.
Patanjali Yoga Peeth and Mumbai Mahila Patanjali Yoga Samiti organized a Yoga Science Camp and Women’s Meeting on Friday in the Highland area of Thane.
