The poster
Amid uproar over the comment on Ramcharitramanas by a Bihar minister, a fresh controversy has erupted after posters were seen outside former Chief Minister and RJD leader Rabri Devi’s residence in Patna wherein Ravana analogy has been used for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The posters depicted Modi as “Raavan/Kansa”, as per media report. The controversy snowballed as two Hindu mythologies – Ramayana and Mahabharata – were used to the 2024 General Election battle pitching the grand alliance of the opposition parties against the saffron party.
Bihar CM shown as Hindu lord Ram
The poster features Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as Lord Rama or Krishna. In two rows, the poster shows how Lord Ram in the Ramayana fought Ravana and how Lord Krishna in the Mahabharata defeated Kansa. The lower portion of the poster also claims of the Grand Alliance – comprising RJD, JD-U, Congress and others – defeating PM Modi-led BJP in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Idiotic, says BJP
BJP spokesperson Nawal Kishore Yadav said: “Nitish Kumar is new among all the opposition leaders, be it Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, and Naveen Patnaik. PM Modi will be in power till 2034. No one can defeat him.” Bihar BJP spokesperson Nikhil Anand slammed the move saying it is in poor taste. He said: “This is not the era of the war of the monarchy. This is an era of democracy where votes decide fate. Ram-Ravana and Krishna-Kansh are fine but instead of Nitish-NaMo, NaMo-Nitish can also be written. But why kill a person who is already dead? RJD’s poster fools, what do you think about the rhyme of Tej(Pratap)-Tej(shwi)?”
The ruling parties and the BJP are already at loggerheads after Bihar education minister and RJD leader Chandrashekhar made controversial remarks on Ramcharitmanas, a Hindu epic. The RJD leader, a third-term MLA from Madhepura, said that the epic propagates social discrimination. While the BJP is demanding ouster of the minister, multiple petitions have been filed against the minister by several Hindutva leaders.
