PM’s Pakistani sister sends him rakhi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a rakshabandhan gift from an unwanted quarter – a Pakistani woman – ahead of the auspicious Hindu festival. Qamar Mohsin Shaikh sent the sacred thread–Rakhi and wished him for the 2024 general election, according to news agency ANI.

Speaking to the ANI, the Pakistani woman said she has made all preparations and expected to meet PM Modi this time. “I hope he (PM Modi) will call me to Delhi this time. I have done all the preparations. I made this rakhi by myself by using a Reshmi ribbon with embroidery design,” she added.

“There is no doubt he will be the PM again. He deserves this because he has those capabilities and I wish him to be PM of India every time,” she added.

Shaikh has been sending a rakhi and a Raksha Bandhan card to Modi every year, according to a Hindustan Times. The Pakistani woman wrote a letter and prayed for his good health and long life. She also wished him good luck for the 2024 election.

“I wrote a letter and prayed for a long and healthy life. Keep doing good work like you are doing,” she told ANI. In the 2024 election, she said, “There is no doubt he will be the PM again. He deserves this because he has those capabilities and I wish him to be PM of India every time,” she added.

The gesture of the Pakistani woman might help Modi internationally, his core constituencies will understandably take the news with a pinch of salt.

Already, Modi faced a lot of criticism in the media from opposition leaders for exchanging gifts with Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s mother. The PM has been accused of presenting himself as a follower of Gandhi internationally but prefers to be identified as a hardcore Hindutva figure at home, which reflects mainly during election campaigns. “The Police of the BJP government is Gandhi in abroad and Godse in the country,” said Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury last month while slamming the Modi government for dismissing the US panel’s report on religious freedom in India.
