New Delhi: The Press Council of India(PCI) has taken suo-motu cognizance of the alleged attack on
a Journalist for reporting on violation of COVID-19 guidelines by Sarpach of Korua Panchayat, in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha.
journalist Mahadev Nayak was allegedly kept in hostage in a temporary Medical Centre and his press equipments seized purportedly for reporting on the violation of COVID-19 guidelines by Sarpanch Aranya Nayak who was in quarantine.
”Taking cognizance in the above matter, PCI has called for comments from the
State Govt. of Odisha,” a statement from the PCI said.
This is not the first case in the country that journalists have faced harassment and persecution for their reporting of the Covid-19 situation. There have been several instances when scribes were attacked by people, and also booked by authorities for simply doing the job expected of them.
