Before China visit PM Hasina is again coming to India for bilateral meeting with PM Modi on June 22

Before her first China visit in the month of July Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is visiting India again for scheduled bilateral meeting within next fornight.. It is expected She will arrive in New Delhi on June 21 and leave for Dhaka next day evening. The bilateral meeting is expected to be held at the prestigious Hyderabad House on June 22. PM Hasina came Delhi on 7 th June to attend oath taking ceremony on June 9.

On that late evening she had a one to one tete-e-tete with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In that meeting PM Hasina invited PM Modi to visit Dhaka as early as possible. Sources said that PM Modi may go to Bangaldesh later this year. The Bangladesh side will address the pending Teesta River water-sharing agreement, renewal of the Ganga River water-sharing agreement, and establish a new mechanism to reduce border killings.

China is very keen to invest in the Teesta river water basin development project. As India has reservation on this project funded by China Dhaka Has put on hold the project . Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra had visited Dhaka last month and expressed intension to be stake holder in the Teesta river development project on the Bangladesh side.

Both side can agree on the dredging of Teesta river to infuse more water.

Ganges river water water sharing agreement is coming to an end on 2026. Dhaka wants to start negotiations immediastely. Joint river commission meeting may soon starts. India is keen to advance a new bilateral economic partnership, seeking a greater role in the Mongla sea port, similar to the Chabahar Port in Iran. A new sea route extending to the Indo-Pacific is also on the agenda. In addition, India aims to expand the “Sagar” project to Indian ocean region.

During Prime Minister's oath taking ceremony two important Indian ocean archipelago-Maritus, Sychelles, Srilanka and Maldives head of the state were also present. During this time PM Hasina also met PM of Bhutan and President Sri Lanka . Bangladesh wants to import more hydro power from Bhutan. This requires India's consent. It is hoped India may agree to transport power from Bhutan to Bangladesh via India.

Discussions are on between two countries to inaugurate Feni Moitree bridge for public transport very soon and to open second unit of Rampal moitree power plant. Both the PM can open this two project symbolically during the bilateral meeting. Passenger movement through Maitri Setu, the bridge connecting India and Bangladesh in south Tripura district, will commence by September this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina virtually inaugurated the Maitri Setu in March 2021.

The bridge, spanning 1.9 km over the Feni River, connectsSabroom in India with Ramgarh in Bangladesh. “The Maitri Setu has already been inaugurated. The land port is almost ready. The movement of passengers through the bridge will commence in September. It will take two or three months to introduce goods movement after passenger movement gets
underway,” said a source.
