Modi can’t be compared to Vivekanand, says Cong; LS rocked over issue

Feb 5, 2020
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was rocked on Wednesday over the statement of leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhirranjan Chowdhury, rejecting any comparison between Swami Vivekanad and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

There can be no comparison between Swami Vivekanada and Modiji as the Swami was a yogi and ”we are all pursuer of material comforts,” leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhirranjan Chowdhry said. But what irritated the BJP lawmakers was the use of a Hindi word rhyming with ‘yogi’.

As the Congress leader used the word to show contrast with the word ‘Yogi’, Members on the treasury benches were up on their feet demanding that Mr Chowdhury take back his words. However, the Congress leader did not yield, as he said that he had not used any unparliamentary language.

”What I mean is that we are all ‘bhogis’ as we are engrossed in material pursuits,” he said speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in the House.

Swamiji’s name was Narendra Dutt, and there is a yawning gap between Narendra Damodar and Narendra Dutt, he said rejecting the comparison which he said was made by a BJP MP yesterday.

He sought to remind the ruling BJP Government led by Modi that Swamiji had said that sectarianism, bigotry and fanaticism had destroyed civilisations. The great spiritual leader had also said that India was a junction of two great forces–Hinduism and Islam, he said.
