In a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP’s senior leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday slammed the PM over Chinese ‘official’ maps that included Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh.
Swamy accused the PM of ‘betraying’ India’s national interests by attending the “China-dominated” Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in Uzbekistan. The PM had met Chinese premiere Xi Jinping earlier this year at the summit.
Swamy tweeted: “Modi betrayed India’s national interest by going to SCO meet despite Xi Jinping distributing Chinese maps at the event showing Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh as part of China…and with Chinese names in the “official” atlas! Final kick to India: Russia has adopted Chinese names in their map!”
Today we cannot display our own maps since China has crossed the 1995 mutually agreed LAC and occupied huge parts of Depsang, Galwan, Kailash hills and is looking with greedy eyes Chusul. Modi is still in “koi aaya nahin” mode.

The Ministry of External Affairs had recently said that the situation in eastern Ladakh was yet to return to normalcy. MEA remarks came in the backdrop of Chinese envoy Sun Weidong claiming that the situation in eastern Ladakh is “overall stable” as the two sides have moved from the “emergency response” that followed the Galwan valley clashes in June 2020 to “normalized” management.
MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that “some steps are required” for the situation to be called wholly normal.
