In a tragic incident, two Indian Air Force aircrafts, a Sukhoi-30 and Mirage 2000, reportedly crashed near Morena, Madhya Pradesh. The incident reportedly happened on Saturday morning.
Morena additional superintendent of police Rai Singh Narwariya said, “An air force team is reaching the spot to confirm about the plane and number of people present in it. Police found a hand near the plane.”
Ankit Asthana, Morena DC, said, “Pilots have been traced and cops and local administration are at the spot for rescue operations. Pilots have received injuries and they are safe.”
In the search and rescue operations, two pilots have been reportedly rescued. The pilots have received minor injuries, according to an Economic Times report.
News agency ANI reported citing defence sources that a Sukhoi-30 and Mirage 2000 aircraft were involved in the crash. The two aircraft had taken off from the Gwalior air base in Madhya Pradesh where an exercise was going on. More details are awaited.
As per media reports so far, there could be a possibility of a mid-air collision. However, it has not been confirmed by the either the Indian Air Force or the local administration.
IAF court of inquiry to establish whether there was a mid-air collision or not. The Su-30 had 2 pilots while Mirage 2000 had one pilot during the crash. Initial reports suggest 2 pilots are safe while an IAF chopper reaching the location of the 3rd pilot soon, informed Defence Sources.
