Cong, oppn leaders hit back at BJP for Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Rs 41k plus foreign-made T-shirt’ jibe

Congress hit back at BJP for taking a swipe at Rahul Gandhi for sporting “T-shirt worth Rs 41000-plus” with party leaders alleging that the saffron party of raking up ‘weird issue’ as it got “scared” of seeing the swelling support for the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Chhattisgarh CM and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel played down the “unnecessary controversy” being created by a set of people saying that his party is trying hard to bring the spirit of togetherness in the country, but the BJP is ‘entrapped in T-shirts and khaki shorts’.

Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday targeted Gandhi scion saying that the latter is on foot march to “unite” India by wearing “foreign-made T-shirt.” Shah said: “Hail mother India. Rahul Baba is out on a foot march to unite India but he is seen wearing a foreign t-shirt.” “He once during a speech in parliament said India is not a country. This is the country where many brave hearts have made sacrifices. Rahul Baba needs to read the history of the country before trying to unite India,” he said.

On the other hand, BJP claimed that the Congress leader was sporting a Rs 41,000-plus T-Shirt from British luxury brand Burberry, triggering sharp reactions from opposition parties. “Bharat Dekho (look, India),” the BJP tweeted earlier, giving a screenshot of the garment in the Burberry catalogue with the price display – Rs 41,257.

As the Congress tweeted the inevitable reminder of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “10 lakh suit”, Trinamool Congress’s Mahua Moitra warned the BJP not to “cross the line”. Moitra tweet reads: “Seriously advise BJP to not cross line & comment on Opposition’s personal clothes & belongings. Remember if we start doing the same with watches, pens, shoes, rings & clothes BJP MPs wear, you’ll rue the day you started this game.”

“Hey… are you scared? Seeing the crowd gathered in Bharat Jodo Yatra. Talk about the issue. Speak on unemployment and inflation. If we have to discuss the clothes, then Modi ji’s suit of 10 lakhs and glasses of 1.5 lakhs should be discussed. Do the BJP want to discuss this?” the Congress responded.

“Sometimes black magic, sometimes the cost of T-shirts is the issue. The Prime Minister is away from the real issues of the country. Prime Minister, come on the real issues, don’t hoodwink the people like this,” read a rough translation of another Hindi tweet from the party’s official handle.

Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi retorted that only if the BJP could have calculated so fast the cost of ‘electing the suit-book sarkar’. – INDIA NEWS STREAM
