Celebrity Indian-origin author Salman Rushdie was stabbed in the neck during an event in New York.
According to reports, the he was getting ready to deliver a lecture, when the attacker stabbed him right in front of the gathering.
He was being introduced at the event of the Chautauqua Institution in Western New York, New York police said.
The suspect was taken into custody by a state trooper at the event, they said.
Rushdie was reportedly airlifted to a local hospital, police said.
An interviewer also suffered a minor head injury, police said.
According to CNN, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul told reporters Friday that Rushdie is “alive” and “getting the care he needs.” She said a state trooper “stood up and saved his life and protected him as well as the moderator who was attacked as well. – INDIA NEWS STREAM
