Another Kannada actress arrested in Drug case

Sep 8, 2020

Bangalore: The drug scam in the Kannada film industry, popularly known as Sandalwood is getting more and more glamorous with the arrest of yet another young actress Sanjana Galrani in the early hours,of Tuesday from her posh residential flat in the city .

The CCB sleuths seized the actress’s two mobile phones, laptop and a pen drive from her home besides some undisclosed material from her car .The actress created a scene by shouting at policemen that her sick mother is disturbed and that she was innocent.

Sandeep Patil, Joint CP crime said Sanjana’s arrest after raid came following interrogation of a Malayalam actor Nivas on Monday. In all 13 accused have been listed by the CCB in the drug case following whistle blower and film maker Indrajit Lankesh’s ‘disclosures’ last week on drug mafia network the industry.Viren Khanna and Rahul Shetty, popular party hosts in Kannada film industry, are already in custody. Some kin of politicians and musicians are also on hot list .

The local media has identified another party swinger link of Mohammed Shah where Iranian and foreign girls mingled with film industry dons and was hosted mostly in pubs and 5-star hotels. Most of the heroines in current drug list were also identified as these party swingers. Police have spread net for drug consumers, party hosts and also paddlers , says JCP Sandip patil .

Kannada actor Ragini Dwivedi, was arrested last Friday and is in 5-day police custody.

Meanwhile Mangalore port city on the west coast has become a conduit for smuggling and trafficking of drugs, gold and flesh trade, say police .Last week they caught several students in the drug parade of the NCB in the city. The proximity of Mangalore to Kasargod in Kerala has been identified as the source of all trafficking and peddling activity from gulf countries .

The arrests, raids and public shaming of drug abusers appear to be a campaign of moral policing by the BJP. Majority of arrested persons are outsiders ( non local), mostly successful artistes in hit Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu film industry. None of the family members of the celebrity stars, film producers, film directors, police officials or music directors etc are named.

In her deposition, Ragini had questioned as to why names of other Kannada heroines , sons of star actors Raj kumar, Srinath, Sudha Rani etc are not mentioned by Inderjit Lankesh, and 0nly non-local actors who had mass following and made it good here through their talents are hand picked out of jealousy and envy .” I can name 60-70 persons who had been attending these parties and using drugs as well” she had said.
