Congress writes to Shah again over Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Yatra security breaches

Congress letter

  • IB unit personnel of the Haryana Police had intruded the Yatra, and a complaint has been filed over it but no action has been taken
  • There is lack of coordination between the Delhi Police and CRPF, pointing out that two major issues during the Delhi leg of the Yatra
  • There are multiple instances where unidentified people got very close to Rahul Gandhi

The alleged lapses in Rahul Gandhi’s security has continued to be an issue of political slugfest between the ruling BJP and the Congress as the grand old party has again written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, flagging security breaches during the Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY). In the fresh letter, the Congress has raised the issue of breach in Haryana’s Sohna.

Cong rejects CRPF claim

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cited a total of 113 violations by Gandhi amid the foot march, which has already covered thousands of kms.   On the other hand Delhi Police also said that the Congress leader did not obey the security protocols and that there were complete security layouts when the Yatra reached the national capital. The Congress, in a fresh letter to Shah, rejected the CISF’s response. The CRPF cited a total of 113 violations by Gandhi amid the foot march, which has already covered thousands of kms. In reference to the Delhi leg, the agency further stressed that Rahul did not adhere to the guidelines. The CRPF is responsible for providing an inner cordon of the Congress MP’s Z-plus security.

Lack of communication between Delhi Police and CRPF

The Congress said that there is lack of coordination between the Delhi Police and CRPF, pointing out that two major issues occurred during the Delhi leg of the Yatra, and both were down to the lack of cooperation between personnel of two security agencies. Flagging security concerns, the letter posted to Shah read: “Firstly, we had written about a specific incident in Sohna, Haryana, where the Yatra’s containers were intruded by Intelligence unit personnel of the Haryana Police.  Although we have filed an FIR, we think it appropriate to bring this to the fore as a severe security breach.” The letter also pointed out that the unidentified people who entered the containers were not questioned. “Secondly, as far as the Delhi leg of the Yatra is concerned, there were two significant issues- both related to the utter lack of collaboration between the Police and CRPF,” the letter added.

“There are multiple instances where unidentified people got very close to Rahul Gandhi, the videos and photographic proofs of the same can be shared,” reads the new letter, which was shared by Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera on Twitter. Intelligence unit personnel of the Haryana Police had intruded on the Yatra, the party has said, and a complaint has been filed over it but no action has been taken.
