PM Modi hits out at nepotism and corruption; 10 points of I-day speech

New Delhi:  As India celebrates 75 years of Independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hoisted the Tricolour at the Red Fort and addressed the nation on the occasion.

While addressing the nation for the ninth time from the historic ramparts of Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi made following major points:

  1. “Talent will be the basis for the progress of new India. To cleanse every institute of India, let’s shift our mentality from ‘bhai-bhatijawad’ and ‘Parivaarwad’ and give an opportunity to the citizens who deserve it.
  2. Corruption and dynasty politics are two of the biggest challenges before India. We need to fight against corruption with full might.
  3. Until and unless people have the mentality of penalizing the corrupt, the nation cannot progress at the optimum pace. Another evil we need to come together against is nepotism. We need to give opportunities to those who are talented and will work towards the progress of the nation.
  4. There is no place for corruption in our society and that the people of the country need to come together as a society to punish those who have propagated the evil of corruption. Today the nation shows anger towards corruption, but sometimes people show kindness towards the corrupted. Until and unless people have the mentality of penalizing the corrupt, the nation cannot progress at optimum pace.
  5. On the one hand there are those who do not have a home to live in and on the other there are those who do not have a place to store the stolen goods. This situation is not good for the nation.
  6. Corruption is scooping out the foundation of India. I want to fight against it. I call upon the 130 crore Indians to help me fight against corruption. Some people keep glorifying those who have been convicted of corruption and spent time in jail. We must ensure an attitude of hatred towards corruption and corrupted.
  7. The Panch Pran of Amrit Kaal- Goal of developed India, to remove any trace of colonial mindset, takes pride in our roots, unity and sense of duty among citizens.
  8. Today is also the birth anniversary of Maharishi Aurobindo. I bow at the feet of that great man. But we need to remember the great man who gave a call for ‘Swadeshi to Swaraj’ and ‘Swaraj to Suraj’. This is his mantra. And, therefore, ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ becomes the responsibility of every citizen, every government and every unit of society. ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ is not a government agenda or a government programme. This is a mass movement of society, which we have to take forward.
  9. Till today we always remember our revered Lal Bahadur Shastri ji for his inspirational clarion call of Jai Jawan Jai Kisan meaning “Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer. Later Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji added a new link of Jai Vigyan which meant “hail science” and we gave it utmost importance. But in this new phase Amritkal now it is imperative to add jai Anusandhaan that is “hail innovation”. Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhaan.
  10. Those who fled the country after looting banks during the tenure of previous government, we have seized their property and are trying to get them back. Some have been forced to go behind the bars. We are trying to ensure that those who looted the country are compelled to return.”
