Common man under severe economic strain: LoP Gandhi criticises Centre on inflation

Raebareli: Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Centre over rising inflation and economic distress during his visit to Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli district.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating a community hall built from MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds at Thakurain Kheda village in the Bachhrawan Assembly constituency, Rahul Gandhi said the continuous rise in prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities has made life difficult for ordinary citizens.

Interacting with villagers, he stated that the common people of the country are facing mounting financial pressure, while the government is not paying adequate attention to their problems. He said the economic situation could become more difficult in the coming days, adversely impacting farmers, labourers, youth, and small traders.

LoP Gandhi said he remains committed to fulfilling the promises made to the people of Raebareli and asserted that the condition of small businessmen and the working class has been steadily deteriorating. He urged the Union government to take measures that provide relief to these sections.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi visited the Churuwa temple and offered prayers to Bajrangbali on the occasion of Bada Mangal. He also interacted with devotees and local residents present at the temple premises.

The Congress leader had arrived in Lucknow earlier on Tuesday morning, where he was received by party workers at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport. Uttar Pradesh Congress President, Ajay Rai and senior party leader Pramod Tiwari were also present.

From Lucknow, LoP Gandhi proceeded to Raebareli by road as part of his two-day visit to the constituency.

During the visit, he is scheduled to take part in public interaction programmes, women’s outreach initiatives and organisational meetings with party workers.

Political observers view the visit as significant for strengthening the Congress organisation in Uttar Pradesh and fine-tuning the party’s strategy ahead of the upcoming elections.
