Pankaj Tripathi credits his ‘simple, sensitive’ nature to Bihar upbringing

Mumbai: Acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi, who celebrated Biha Diwas at the Embassy of India in Tokyo, has opened up about how his upbringing in Bihar continues to shape his personality, revealing that the simplicity, struggles, and emotional depth he carries today are deeply rooted in where he comes from.

The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Her Excellency Nagma Mohamed Mallick, Ambassador of India to Japan, who highlighted Bihar’s historical significance and its growing global identity.

Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Pankaj, who attended the celebration along with his family, said: “The simplicity, struggle, and sensitivity that come from the soil of Bihar form the foundation of my identity.”

“But beyond that, Bihar is also a feeling, one that lives within you no matter where you go in the world. Standing here in Tokyo today, surrounded by people who carry Bihar in their hearts, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride and belonging.”

Pankaj shared what makes Bihar truly special is not just its history, but its people, their resilience, their warmth, and their ability to dream despite challenges.

“Today, Biharis across the world are making a mark through their hard work, talent, and integrity. Whether it’s in arts, academics, business, or public service, they are quietly and consistently contributing to the global narrative of India,” he added.

Pankaj continued that events like Bihar Diwas “on a foreign soil remind us of where we come from.”

“They reconnect us with our roots, our values, and our shared cultural memory. For me personally, it’s always an emotional moment because it takes me back to my journey, my upbringing, and everything that has shaped me as a person and an artist.”

“Being here with my family makes it even more meaningful, because it’s not just about celebrating a state, it’s about passing on that pride and connection to the next generation.”

He concluded: “I truly believe that as we move forward globally, staying connected to our roots gives us strength and clarity. Bihar’s story is one of legacy, learning, and limitless potential and I feel honoured to be a small part of that story.”

Organised with the support of Anand Vijay Singh, President of the Bihar & Jharkhand Association, Japan Chapter, the celebration showcased Bihar’s vibrant cultural heritage through traditional music, dance, and cuisine. Guests were also introduced to Bihar’s art, culture, and emerging opportunities in trade, tourism, and investment.
