India, Bangladesh agree to work on Teesta project

New Delhi: India and Bangladesh have decided to jointly work on Teesta Development Project, Renewal of Ganges Water Sharing Agreement, and e-Visa for medical treatment.

Following the bilateral talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced, in a joint briefing, at Hyderabad House.

A technical team from India will soon visit Bangladesh to oversee the Teesta development project. He also announced that Ganga River Water Agreement will be renewed after meeting of technical team of two countries.

Another announcement on medical visa, PM Modi said, Henceforth e-Visa will be given for medical treatment in India.

Both sides have agreed to start negotiation on comprehensive economic partnerships agreement or CEPA soon.

PM hailed leadership of Sheikh Hasina, saying that Bangladesh will achieve “Sonar Bangla” as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“In one year, we have met ten times on different occasions. In one year so many joint projects have been realised. It’s a testimony of the speed and scale of cooperation,” said PM Modi.

He also said that new areas of cooperation have been identified like blue economy space. Launch of Moitree Satalite will usher a new cooperation focus. 

PM Modi has welcomed Bangladesh’s decision to join indo-Pacific economic project.
