Prasoon Joshi to be honoured with inaugural ‘NBT Bhushan Samman’ at NBT Utsav 2026

New Delhi: Acclaimed writer, lyricist and screenwriter Prasoon Joshi is set to be honoured with the inaugural ‘NBT Bhushan Samman’ at the Navbharat Times (NBT) Utsav 2026 on July 4. The special honour has been instituted by NBT Delhi to reward outstanding and enduring contributions in the fields of literature, culture, creativity, and mass communication.

The celebrated creative icon will receive the NBT Bhushan Samman by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during NBT Utsav 2026, slated for July 4 in the national capital.

Prasoon Joshi is among India’s most distinguished creative minds, whose words have transcended cinema to become expressions of hope, emotion, patriotism, and social change. Through memorable works in films such as Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and Neerja, he has forged a lasting connection with audiences across generations. His writing reflects the aspirations of youth, the spirit of the nation, and the depth of human relationships, making his work an integral part of contemporary Indian cultural life.

Beyond cinema, Prasoon Joshi has established himself as a leading voice in literature and advertising. His poetry and prose are celebrated for their emotional depth, while his acclaimed advertising campaigns are known for their simplicity, creativity, and ability to connect with millions. His exceptional command over language and distinctive storytelling have earned him recognition as one of India’s most influential creative personalities.

“Prasoon Joshi’s remarkable creative journey continues to inspire generations of young Indians. It is with this vision that the publication is instituting the NBT Bhushan Samman, beginning with one of the country’s most respected cultural icons,” NBT Delhi said in a press statement.

“The award will honour individuals whose extraordinary contributions have enriched Indian society, culture, and public life,” it further said about the purpose behind introducing a new honour at its annual flagship event.

Notably, Prasoon Joshi was recently appointed as the head of a study group set up by the Centre to recommend measures for strengthening the Indian film industry and expanding theatre infrastructure in the country.

Joshi, the chairman of Prasar Bharati and long-time advertising and film professional, will chair the study group. The panel will also include industry experts and technology partners and will submit its report to the ministry within three months.
