Delhi horror: Father cites 2nd daughter, financial strain as ‘reason’ for killing 10-month-old baby girl

New Delhi: In a shocking and heartbreaking development in the alleged kidnapping case of a 10-month-old infant from Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy area, police on Monday said that the child’s father confessed to murdering the baby and later staging the incident as a kidnapping, in an attempt to mislead investigators.

According to officials, the accused killed the infant by throwing her into the septic tank of his own house before fabricating a false story about her disappearance.

Delhi Police said the case was solved within hours through what officials described as a swift, sensitive and highly coordinated investigation carried out by teams from Bhalswa Dairy Police Station.

The matter came to light on May 24 after an urgent PCR call was received at Bhalswa Dairy Police Station regarding the alleged kidnapping of a 10-month-old girl from her residence in Mukundpur Part-II.

Recognising the seriousness of the case and the vulnerability of the child, senior police officials immediately mobilised multiple teams for investigation and search operations.

Police said that under the guidance of Special CP Law and Order Zone-I Devesh Chandra Srivastava, the strategic supervision of Joint CP Northern Range Vijay Singh, and the close monitoring of Additional DCP Outer North Amit Kaushik, along with ACP Swaroop Nagar, three specialised teams were constituted under the supervision of the SHO, ATO and Inspector Investigation.

Officials said extensive search operations were launched and CCTV footage from all possible escape routes in the area was analysed on priority. A case was registered under FIR No. 275/2026 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The complainant, identified as Deepak, initially told police that his daughter had disappeared from her bed during a brief five-minute period when he had stepped out of the house to purchase biscuits and milk.

However, during the course of the investigation, police teams reportedly found serious inconsistencies in his statements and timeline.

A detailed frame-by-frame examination of CCTV footage from the locality failed to support the father’s claims regarding his movements and the alleged kidnapping.

Growing suspicious, the police subjected the accused to sustained interrogation, during which he eventually broke down and confessed to the crime, officials said.

According to police, Deepak admitted that he had been facing financial distress and felt incapable of bearing the expenses associated with raising a second daughter.

“In a desperate bid to rid himself of the responsibility, he murdered the infant by throwing her into the septic tank of his own house and subsequently fabricated the kidnapping story to mislead the authorities,” police officials stated.

Following his confession, the police team recovered the body of the infant girl from the septic tank located inside the house of the accused.

Police said that after the recovery of the body, Section 103(1) of the BNS related to murder was added to the case, and the accused father was formally arrested.

Officials said the accused was employed as a driver of a school van for G.D. Goenka Public School.

Delhi Police stated that the prompt response, coordinated efforts, and professional investigation by the Bhalswa Dairy Police team helped expose the accused and crack the case within a short span of time.

Further statutory investigation and legal proceedings against the accused are currently underway, officials added.
