New Delhi: The Tourism Department of Portugal, ‘Turismo de Portugal’, is inviting participation from all in a competition where they can share their stories, photos, and memories with a larger audience and also win an incredible trip to the heritage country.
”Portugal is a country where once is not enough! The Portuguese World Heritage is evidence of many centuries of the country’s history and culture, and also of its universal history. In every city, monument and landscape there are countless stories and memories which make them special. But heritage also exists in each individual, in their rich past, and in the memories, they continue to carry in the present,” says the Tourismo de Portugal.
These stories must be known, valued and preserved — which is why Turismo de Portugal has instituted this competition, it said .
The 5 winners of the competition will be awarded a prize under the motto “Heritage for one day” in Portugal.
The prize includes a round trip for 1 person, a 2-night stay and a unique experience to be defined by Turismo de Portugal.
List of World Heritage Sites that are important in the competition include Historic Centre of Guimarães, Historic Centre of Porto, Alto Douro Wine Region, Coimbra University, Alta and Sofia, Prehistoric Rock Art Sites in the Coa Valleyonvent of Christ in Tomar, Monastery of Alcobaça, Monastery of Batalha, Monastery of Jerónimos and Tower of Belém, Lisbon, Cultural Landscape of Sintra, Historic Centre of Évora, Elvas city and its Fortifications, Central Zone of the Town of Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island, Azores, Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture, Azores
Laurisilva Forest of Madeira, National Palace of Mafra, and Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte in Braga.
Portugal was founded in 1143, making it one of the oldest nations in Europe. Portugal is named after its 2nd largest city, Porto. There are 22 UNESCO World Heritage classifications in Portugal; and each year more than 20 million tourists visit the country. With the longest bridge in Europe, Portugal is also a very popular destination from India for those looking for a Euro break and an extension to their Spain and Morocco itineraries. The total flight duration from Portugal to India is 10 hours, 42 minutes and India is 5:30 hours ahead of Portugal.
