Uproar in Lok Sabha over reference to ‘Italian’ angle in corona virus

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Thursday witnessed uproar over remarks of  Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) leader Hanuman Beniwal linking Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country, leading adjournment of the House till 2 p.m.

Beniwal’s remarks came during the course of suggestions from members of the House after Health Minister Harshvardhan made a statement on coronavirus in the House.

Members suggested various means to contain the virus before it acquires epidemic proportions.Various members, including BJD’s Bhartruhai Mehtab,and Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party put forward their views.

However, the House broke into uproar when reference was made to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by Mr Beniwal while talking of ” Italian ” factor in the spread of the virus . The Congress members in trhe House immediately rose in protest.They were also joined by members of othet political parties, which led to the adjournment of the House .

Italy is among the countries severely hit by the coronavirus, with 3,089 confirmed cases and 107 deaths so far. As many as 16 Italian nationals in India have been confirmed as being infected.
