Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday took stock of the preparedness of Indian Army and the security situation amid operations by security forces to neutralise terrorists, a day after an explosion claimed the lives of five Indian Army soldiers in the district.
Meanwhile, fresh reports suggest two terrorists were killed in separate encounters with security forces in Rajouri and Baramulla districts on Saturday. Notably, terror attacks in the erstwhile state increased in recent days. Yesterday, five soldiers were killed during the anti-terror ‘Operation Trinetra’ of the Indian Army with Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF.
Already a high alert has been sounded in the region following inputs about a possible terror attack ahead of the G-20 event. All Army installations, especially, and even Army schools along the Jammu-Pathankot national highway, are on alert, according to sources.
“Following intelligence inputs of a terror strike, a high alert has been sounded in all defence installations along the Jammu-Pathankot national highway. At least a dozen army schools, including in Sunjuwan and Domana besides those on the highway, were shut for the day as a precautionary measure,” said defence officials privy to the development, according to the Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile, the Army has grounded the entire fleet of Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv following the crash of one of the choppers on Thursday, military sources said. An Army chopper crashed near Machhna village in Marwah tehsil in Kishtwar District of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. It has been reported that as many as three people were onboard the chopper when the crash took place.
A massive reinforcement of troops was rushed to the region as part of ‘Operation Trinetra’ to flush out terrorists who are believed to be entrenched in caves in the forest areas of Rajouri.
The Defence Minister visited the Army Base Camp in Rajouri interacted with the soldiers and commended their valour and zeal while operating in challenging situations.
