Saudi Arabia starts Yoga in universities

What may surprise many Muslims in India at least, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – formally ruled by Islamic rule – early this week introduced Yoga, a spiritual discipline rooted in Hindu philosophy. Towards this, a virtual introductory lecture was organised for the university representatives across the Kingdom to spread awareness and motivate its practice as a lifestyle for all segments of society, according to ANI.

The Muslims in India largely avoid the practice since they believe it is part of the Hindu culture and also got mentioned in Hindu religious scripture. As a result, India’s apex Muslim forum the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) also ran an awareness campaign among the Muslim masses.

The event was organized early this week by the Saudi Yoga Committee in cooperation with the Saudi Universities Sports activities Federation.

According to the agency, the lecture aimed to introduce each yoga activity to Saudi universities and provides a wide range of choices to the scholars on college campuses to apply yoga, the Saudi Gazette reported.

The lecture listed each psychological and bodily well-being and plans to affix skilled yogasana sports activities coaching to be a part of competitions regionally and internationally.
