Kozhikode: Nipah virus has resurfaced in Kearala, claiming the life of a 12-year-old boy on Sunday morning.
State Health Minister Veena George said the samples of the boy, which were sent to the Pune National Institute of Virology, confirmed the presence of Nipah virus.
“Unfortunately, the boy passed away at 5 in the morning. The condition of the child was critical on Saturday night. We formed various teams and have started the tracing. Steps have been taken to isolate those who were the primary contacts of the boy”, media reports quoted the health minister as saying .
Meanwhile, the Centre has rushed a team of the National Centre for Disease Control to the state to provide technical support.

Earlier, the Nipah virus was reported in Kerala was in 2019 in Kochi. In 2018, 17 people had died in an outbreak of the virus in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts .
