New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India was celebrating its 72nd Independence Day with a new sense of confidence and positivity as the country becomes the sixth largest economy in the world overcoming the state of indecision that was the hallmark of previous governments.

The Prime Minister in his fifth Independence speech from the ramparts of the Red Forts recounted various path-breaking reforms like GST that enhanced the rating of the country in the world.

”These decisions, on which everyone agreed but were stalled due to various political considerations, but his government had the courage to go ahead with them,” he said taking a dig at the previous Congress-ed UPA government.

Modi spoke of the various schemes of the government like the Mudra yojna, Jandhan Yojna, Ujjwala Yojna which had brought about a difference in the quality of life of the poor. Moreover, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyan to be launched on September 25 would take care of the health care of 10 crore families.

He also recounted the various harsh measures against corruption, having cracked down on shell companies and black money and money laundering and tax evasion.

He also pointed out that at the recently concluded monsoon session of parliament, his government gave constitutional status to the OBC and SC-ST Commission to protect the rights of the underprivileged.
