New Delhi:Citing a media report that former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S Yeddyurappa paid as much as ₹1,800 crore to top BJP leaders, including L.K. Advani, Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, the Opposition Congress on Friday dared the Modi Government to have the matter investigated by the newly-appointed Lokpal.
The evidence of bribe is found in the notes purportedly written by Yeddyurappa which a news magazine Caravan has published.
”Chowkidar ki chori pakri gai”(The theft by the watchman has been caught), Congress Randeep Singh Surjewala said at a press conference here, asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come clean on the issue.
He said that according to the Carvan report, Yeddyurappa had recorded the alleged payouts in a Karnataka state assembly legislator’s 2009 diary in his own hand. The diary pages note that Yeddyurappa paid Rs 1,000 crore to the BJP central committee from May 2008 to 2011, and even Rs 250 was paid to judges.
Either the Prime Minister should deny that its leadership has been bribed or he should order a probe, he said.
“Prima facie, this is a case of investigating all BJP leaders, right from the PM an.d downwards. It is a fit case to be investigated by the newly appointed Lokpal,” Mr Surjewala said.
The diary with B S Yeddyurappa’s signature on it was with the Income Tax Department since 2017, he said.
The Congress Spokesperson claimed that the Income Tax Department had approached Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to find out whether there should be an inquiry but nothing happened.
