Jan 8, 2020

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be going for inaugiration of the Khelo India Youth Games 2020 on January 10 at Guwahati in Assam where anti-Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA) is raging.

According to a report in the Indian Express, CEO of Khelo India Avinash Joshi has told the newspaper that they had till now no confrimation about the Prime Minister’s visit, but they had been informally informed that he was not coming.

Huge protests were being held daily in Assam against the new citizenship law which the protesters say will lead to settling of lakhs of illegal migrants, rendering them into a minority in their own state.

The All Assam Students Union(AASU) which is spearheading the agitation has warned the Government of consequences of the implementation of the Act in the state and demanded that it should revoke the law without any delay. They have also warned of massive protests if the Prime Minister comes to the state to inaugurate the Khelo India.

The AASU and NESO (North East Students Organisation) yesterday held a press conference in the national capital here to highlight their demand at the national level and sought support of the people from across the country.
