LS Speaker Om Birla to address IPU Assembly in Belgrade

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla would be leading an Indian Parliamentary delegation the 141st Assembly of the Inter Parliamentary Union to be held in Belgrade, Serbia October 13 to 17.
Mr Birla would address the gathering of Presiding Officers and Parliamentarians from 179 Member countries during the Assembly, whose overall theme is “Strengthening international law: Parliamentary roles and mechanisms, and the contribution of regional cooperation” .
After the Conclusion of the General debate a declaration will be adopted by the Assembly. The Speaker will also address members of the IPU on Development and Economy at the Speakers’ Dialogue on Governance .
The members on his delegation are Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Wansuk Syiem, Jugal Kishore Sharma, MP, Dr. Bhartiben Dhirubhai Shyal, Shobha Karandlaje, Ram Kumar Verma, Sasmit Patra, Snehlata Shrivastava, Secretary General, Lok Sabha, Desh Deepak Verma, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha, and P.C. Koul, Joint Secretary, Lok Sabha Secretariat and Secretary to the Delegation. The delegation will depart for the Assembly on 12th October, 2019.
During the Assembly, Members of the Indian delegation will be participating in various meetings of the Standing Committees of IPU, Governing Council, Forum of Women Parliamentarians, Forum of Young Parliamentarians and Panel Discussions on important subjects. The Members will also attend the Meetings of the Parliamentary Forum on BRICS and Coordination Meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) to be held on the sidelines. The Secretaries General of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will attend the meetings of the Association of the Secretary General of Parliaments (ASGP).
The Speaker will also hold various Bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other Parliaments on the sidelines to discuss matters of mutual interest and increased parliamentary cooperation.
