New Delhi: Former Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha today expressed strong disapproval of his son Minister of State in the Modi government Jjayant Sinha’s action of felicitating the convicts of Ramgarh lynching .
Sinha’s response on Twitter came after the news of his son feting those convicted of murdering a meat trader Alimuddin Ansari in the name of cow protection became viral.
” Earlier, I was the Nalayak Baap( worthless father) of a layak Beta. (worthy son) Now the roles are reversed,” the senior Sinha tweeted.
He said he did not approve of his son’s action, but said he knew his statement would draw further abuse on twitter.
Earlier, the junior Sinha, following sharp reaction on the social media to his action of felicitating the convicts, tweeted that he condemned the violence and rejected vigilantism but had ”misgivings” about the verdict. he also said he was honoring the due process of law.
Eight of the 11 people sentenced to life term in jail for the lynching by a fast track court in March this year, have been set free on bail by the high court which suspended the sentence till final disposal of the case. Jayant Sinha garlanded seven of them who went to his house.
His father also predicted that by such actions his son’s party BJP will never win.
Yashwant Sinha quit the BJP in April this year following sharp differences with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah.
Earlier, the Opposition Congress also reacted sharplly to jayant Sinha’s action.
”I think that is something which is horrific that a Minister in the central government will be associated with people, who have been involved with lynching. It is shocking because it is a Union Minister,” Congress Spokesperson RPN Singh said at media briefing while replying to a question
”We see that the government is issuing advisory on the Whatsapp issue. These advisories just seem to be something which is passed on to the States when Ministers in the central government are actually congratulating or helping people who are allegedly involved with lynching. You can understand where this government is taking this country to,” he said.
