New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been found as the most suitable leader to take the national agenda forward in a survey conducted by The Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), an advocacy group.
As many as 48 per cent of over 57 lakh people from 712 districts reached out to in 55 days by the National Agenda Forum of 1-PAC see Modi as the top leader, followed by Rahul Gandhi who was voted by 11 per cent of those surveyed.
The survey by the advocacy group, mentored by political strategist Prashant Kishore, also found that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was people’s top choice among chief ministers to carry forward the agenda for the nation.
Kejriwal is followed by his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Besides, the top ten non-political personalities, who those survey felt should join active politics are: Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Anna Hazare, Baba Ramdev, Kailash Satyarthi, MS Dhoni, Raghuram Rajan, Ratan Tata, Ravish Kumar, Sourav Ganguly.
”The Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) launched the National Agenda Forum (NAF) as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Birth Anniversary year. NAF is a modest attempt to resurrect the conversation around Gandhiji’s 18-point Constructive Programme and use it to re-imagine and co-create an actionable agenda for contemporary India,” the advocacy group said here.
Top 10 priorities chosen by people for India include social, political and economic empowerment of women, protection of farmers interest, and an end to their exploitation for political purposes, sustainable growth and progress, equitable development with a humane approach, access to clean water, food and air for people, communal harmony, respect for persons of other faiths and communities.
Besides, promotion of Indian language, making children ‘model citizens’ and helping them realize a glorious future with education rooted in Indian culture and its realities, strengthening the sense of sanitation as a virtue to make habitations a “model of cleanliness” and eliminate open defecation, support continuing education with an aim to tackle ignorance, broaden world view and acquire skills to increase employability were also listed as priorities.
