New Delhi: The Congress today said the Modi government had only delivered a regime of fear for the ordinary citizen of the country instead of delivering on the promises made to them at the time of elections.
”Today citizens have to fear for what they are wearing, what they are eating and where they are going,” Senior Spokesperson of the Congress Anand Sharma said at a press conference in Parliament premises on the eve of the discussion on the Opposition’s no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.
He said neither citizens nor the country as a whole was safe under Prime Minister Modi as there was spurt in terrorist activities and violations of ceasefire, and killing of civilians on the border, and lynching of innocent people in different parts of the country.
Mr Sharma said the situation on the economic front was also critical. There was flight of capital from the country, and NPAs were increasing, and while jobs were declining because this government was more interested in creating fear than jobs.
The government was also adopting a double standards on the issue of black money stashed abroad, he said.
”Now, they are saying that the money kept in Swiss banks was white whereas during the UPA regime, they said this money was black and fought the election on the plank of removing corruption, but now everybody knows which forces were behind the so-called anti-corruption movement against the Congress,” the senior Congress leader said.
Thousands of crores of people’s hard earned money deposited in banks was not safe as those where were close to the present regime were fleeing away from the country along with the money, the Congress Spokesperson said.
He said that his party along with other Opposition parties had brought in a non-confidence motion against the government knowing well that numbers were not with them but here more than the number, it is the reason for the motion that matters. This government has deceived the people and it is this that the Opposition parties want to highlight through the no-confidence motion, Mr Sharma said.
The Congress leader also attacked the Modi Government’s ”failures” on the Defence and foreign relations. He described the Prime Minister’s Pakistan policy not just a ”failure” but as a ”disaster”. In fact the Prime Minister has reduced diplomacy to just a ”photo opportunity.”
