New Delhi: The CPI-M today hit out at Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Malaya Bannerji saying it has adopted a double standard on the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.
Senior CPI-M leader and MP Mohammad Saleem said here that on the one hand Ms Bannerji was offering to accepted those left out in the NCR, and on the other she has ordered forces to maintain strict vigil on the state border so that no outsider crosses over.
Moreover, the issue is not of citizenship of any state but of India, so it was not for the West Benal government to offer a stand alone solution, Saleem said.
The Trinamool Congresss chief is like the BJP also playing politics of vote bank. He said.
The CPI-M leaders said the BJP is also not doing any good to the country by dividing the people on religious lines on the NRC issue.
When the BJP is saying it will take back Hindus from Pakistan and Bangladesh, it is encouraging exodus. ” Citizenship should flow from the Constitution not from religion, ” the MP said.
