Badminton: Lakshya Sen wins Scottish Open, his 4th title in two months

New Delhi, 25 November : Promising shuttler Lakshya Sen outlasted fourth seed Ygor Coelho 18-21, 21-18, 21-19 to win the Scottish Open in Glasgow,his fourth title in two months, last evening

In September, he won the Belgian International which was followed by title victories at two Super 100 tournaments – the Dutch Open and SaarLorLux Open.

Though Lakshya was top seed at the Scottish open but the 18-year-old had to battle it out in the final against the World No. 58 Brazilian . Ygor made the better start of the two and edged Sen 21-18 in the opening game.

However, the Indian made a superb comeback, In a hard-fought match that lasted 56 minutes, the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy product completed an 18-21, 21-18, 21-19 victory.

This was the second consecutive three-game match for the World No. 41, who had to dig deep in the semi-finals against World Junior Championships silver medallist Christo Popov. Trailing 10-17 in the decider, Sen displayed steely nerves to emerge 9-21, 21-8, 22-20 winner in that match.

Elsewhere, India tasted victory in Mumbai at the Infosys Foundation – India International Challenge through doubles pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy. The top seeds were at their flawless best and needed 41 minutes to beat Thailand’s Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn and Kittisak Namdash 21-15, 21-15.

In men’s singles, Kaushal Dharmamer had to settle for the silver medal as he went down 19-21, 21-8, 14-21 to fifth seed Xiaodong Sheng of Canada.
