New Delhi: Describing Urdu as ”purely an Indian language”, Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has said there will no lack of funds for the promotion of the language.
”Urdu has taken birth in India, and its flavour should travel all over the world,” The HRD Minister
said at a meeting held here to review the working of the National Council for Promotion of Urdu
He noted that during the last tenure of the UPA Government, the Budget for National Council for
Promotion of Urdu Language was Rs 146 Crore, but during the last five years of the Modi Government, the allocation rose to Rs 376 Crore.
The Minister was apprised of the working of the Council and its various schemes. He asked officials to add more schemes to promote the language. He expressed happiness over the success of the Urdu computer scheme, saying it was a matter of great satisfaction for him to see that students who had completed the computer course were getting good jobs, Council Director Sheikh Aqeel Ahmad told India News Stream.
When Ahmad conveyed to the HRD Minister that the Council was going to publish Urdu translation of Dara Shikoh’s books, he lauded the move, saying that Dara Shikoh had done excellent work on Indian culture and civilization which should be taken to the masses. Besides, Madrasas should also have such books so that their students were made familiar with India’s cultural heritage, he said.
Besides, Ahmad, the meeting was attended by vice chairman of the Council Prof Shahid Akhtar and
executive board member Muzahir Khan.
