New Delhi: There are reports that 17 migrant labourers and their family members – including five children – have died due to the harsh conditions they faced while making desperate effrots to return home since the Government announced total lock down in the country on March 24.
Besides migrant workers, an 11-year-old boy also reportedly died of hunger on March 27 in Bhojpur area of Bihar for lack of food caused by strict implementation of the lockdown, according to a report by The Wire.
The total number of deaths due to the lockdown is 27.
The lock down has created a new humanitarian crisis in the country with thousands of migrant workers heading towards their homes, even on foot hpoing to get some food security and shelter of their homes in their home villages after they were thrown out of job due to shut down of economic activities.
